Box for box at Champions Academy

Boxers compete in exciting tournament

Boxing fans in Maraisburg were treated to more than 30 matches as Champions Boxing Academy hosted its boxing tournament recently. The venue was filled to capacity as boxing clubs from areas such as Southern Suburbs, Hugonote, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng. The tournament also included 6 female bouts of high action packed excitement.

The club’s coordinating Manager and Director Ra’ees Khan said pride filled his heart as the tournament went off without a hitch. “This tournament has undoubtedly made a mark in amateur boxing as one of the biggest most developmental boxing tournaments that South Africa has seen in years on a club level. Champions Boxing Academy is proud to support the liberation of female boxers in the sport encouraging and driving the progress of international achievement and competitiveness. Our philosophy highly regards the empowerment of females and youth in every aspect be it educational and sport,” he said.

Champions Boxing Academy views this tournament as only a stepping stone into the major successes which lay ahead that we ought to achieve.

“The tournament was highly exciting and left audiences in a state of awe as they witnessed many boxers step in the ring for the first time and performed as veteran athletes. Ultimately it is not about the win or lose decision but rather the decision made by the youth to do something positive in life that counts,” said Khan.

Champions Boxing Academy’s boxers have been on the rise, competing in East London, Cape Town and Malawi. The club now aims to send a team of boxers to America and Mauritius in September and December respectively. Their goal is to return global competitiveness and restore South African boxing.

The bout of the day was awarded to two 11 year old girls A. Kozain from Champions Boxing Academy and J. Dlamini from Mofaya Boxing Club, for an outstanding display of sportsmanship.

The club welcomes the community to join and support the boxing academy and its initiatives for community development. The Academy is free of charge. For more information visit www.championsblvd.com or contact 011 051 7054. Champions Boxing Academy will host its next tournament on 20 August.
