Golfers tee off for Sarda

RUIMSIG – A day of golf held in aid of Sarda.

It was a perfect day for golf as the sun shone down on the Ruimsig Country Club. Players came out in their masses in aid of the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (Sarda).

According to Julia Morris, fundraising manager of Sarda Gauteng, 21 four ball teams had entered. “Six of the 18 holes were sponsored, which we were very grateful for,” said Morris.

Morris added that this is one of their biggest fundraising events, and takes place annually. Sarda, based in Ruimsig, is a charity that provides mentally and physically disabled children with horse-riding lessons, free of charge, as horse riding is very therapeutic. According to Morris the funds will go to the centre in order to take care of general funds.

Hirsch’s Homestore in Struben’s Valley also came out to support the golf day. They provided coffee to the golfers before teeing off at midday. The day was widely supported as many golfers enjoyed the day, but also kept the competitive spirit alive as they hit their balls straight onto the fairway.

Morris said that Sarda Gauteng is in desperate need of any volunteers to assist at the centre as they are in need of people to help with the morning riding classes.
