GALLERY: A wet and rainy derby day at Rand Park

RANDPARK RIDGE – A derby day of rugby and hockey delight spectators despite rainy weather conditions.

A wet and rainy day did not deter players and spectators from enjoying a successful derby day between Rand Park High School and HeronBridge College.

For the first time ever, the 1st team rugby match was opened by the A team players from Rand Park Primary School and Weltevreden Park Primary School on 14 May. The friendly fixture was no doubt one of the highlights of the derby day as it was the first time the two local primary schools could compete at Rand Park High School and experience the culture.

The final score saw Rand Park Primary School take the win against Weltevreden Park Primary school with a score of 20 – 12.

Rand Park principal Alan Wilke said, “The primary school rugby game was impressive and we were pleased with the talent and potential demonstrated by the young players.”

The rest of the derby was filled with matches in rugby and hockey between HeronBridge and Rand Park.

Rand Park 1st team hockey players won 1–0 against HeronBridge.

In the rugby match, Rand Park 1st team won 29–14.

The U16 game saw another win for Rand Park, 46–0.

Rand Park U15 A had a tight game but won with 15–12.

HeronBridge U14 A played a tough game and had a lot of spirit but saw a loss with a score of 13–10 against Rand Park.

“Our rugby and girls’ hockey games required grit and determination from all the players because the weather deteriorated as the morning went by. Congratulations to every participant and a special word of thanks to each supporter who cheered from the side-lines,” added Wilke.
