Dyllan is SA Kickboxing Champ

Dyllan crowned South African Champ

Total Submission Kickboxing Club’s Dyllan Opperman represented Central Gauteng with great aplomb at a recent event.

He was participating at the South African Kickboxing Championships held at the Valhalla Air Force Base in Pretoria.

The national competition had participants from all over the country such as Eastern, Western and Northern Cape as well as KwaZulu-Natal and Free State.

Dyllan first competed in the Light contact. In Light-contact, opponents fight for a number of rounds and try to score points by landing clean and controlled strikes.

If a fighter is deemed to be fighting too hard then they shall be given a warning by the referee.

Otherwise the fight is continuous and only interrupted if a foul committed.

Fighting round after round, Dyllan managed to get to the semi-finals and managed to receive a bronze medal for finishing in third position.

It was then time for the semi-contact section where Dyllan showed off his full array of skill and was unparalleled.

Semi-contact Kickboxing opponents try to score points by successfully landing strikes to their opponent whilst maintaining clean controlled form.

Each strike must be made with light contact only.

Each time a strike is successfully landed, the fight is interrupted and opponents are reset to their staring positions.

Referees assess and score the strike accordingly. With more than 10 opponents to compete against, Dyllan earned point after point, going through each opponent with an increasing skill level.

He made it into the final of the Semi-contact and after achieving victory, was named the official South African Kickboxing Champion.

“I really feel like a champion and that’s a great feeling. I am grateful to my club members who supported me every step of the way.

This championship is really for them. That is who I did it for,” said Dyllan.

This is not the first time the kickboxer has become South African champion, he first managed the feat in 2011 and has plenty of provincial titles to his name.

He will now be focusing on the upcoming Grade North 2 and Ring Contact Fighting Heart competitions.
