West Rand Touch Rugby League is here

The league which started in 2004 has now expanded to a summer and spring season

The West Rand Touch Rugby League will be kicking off its winter season once again.

This is a chance for those who want to stay fit during the hibernation season to join in and have fun with friends.

The league’s organisor Kobus Kruger is excited for the first game and urged those who want to participate to sign up.

“This is a no-contact sport and is a chance for those young and old who want to play rugby but don’t necessarily like the physical aspect to come and enjoy themselves,” he said.

The league which started in 2004 has now expanded to a summer and spring season.

From Roodepoort to Randfontein to Krugersdorp itself, individual players, friends, school teams, corporate companies and women teams are encouraged to enter.

The league is divided into three leagues determined by the skill level and fitness of the teams. In the Super League, elite players and teams compete at a high level.

In the First and Second Divisions, teams who are playing for social reasons and to have fun compete against each other.

The structure of the competition remains the same.

In the first week it will be Grading week while week two to eight will then see teams playing for a spot in the top four.

The ninth will be the semi-finals and the final week will be the finals.

The league which starts on 1 June will last ten weeks and matches will take place on Wednesday evenings from 7pm at Sterkfontein Heritage Lodge in Rant-en-Dal.
