Karatekas excel at national competition

Sensei Wendy was proud of the good work her pupils achieved at the competition.

Bianca Janse van Rensburg, Rhys Francis, Tristan Clarke and Alyssa van der Merwe made their sensei proud as they returned with gold medals.

The karatekas from Sensei Wendy Wannenberg’s Horizon View Karate Centre participated in the Gauteng Provincial SA JKA Tournament in March which was held at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesburg.

They were judged on their kata and kumite by world class judges experienced in the martial art. Along with their club mates, the karatekas claimed 64 positions in the Gauteng team that will compete at the SA JKA National tournament later this month.

Sensei Wendy was proud of the good work her pupils achieved at the competition.

“I am exceptionally proud of each and every one of my pupils and this proves hard work truly pays off. Karate is not about winning medals but a lifestyle but sometimes it’s nice for the pupils to achieve something,” she said.
