Third time in a row for Strongman Frikkie

Frikkie is once again South Africa's strongman

“A winning mentality is what drives me,” are the words of Roodepoort’s Strongest Man Frikkie Page.

His confidence comes after he clinched the title of South Africa’s Strongest Man under 105-kilograms in an event in Bloemfontein last month.

This is the third consecutive time Page has won the title. The Bad Boy Clothing sponsored athlete won the competition in 2014 and last year October in Pretoria.

He is the first man to win the category three times in a row and Page is already setting his sights on even more titles in the future.

“It was a tough competition because the conditions were incredibly cold which led some athletes to get cramps. We had to deal with different conditions but that is why we work hard everyday, so we can be prepared for anything. The crowds were very special because they came out in their numbers to support the event and cheer the athletes on,” he said.

The competition in Bloemfontein had athletes competing in the Log Press at 135-kilograms followed by a Suitcase which is 140-kilogram per hand for a total of 280-kilograms of weight.

It was in the Log Press event that Page was attempting to break the record of 150-kilograms he set in 2014 but fell short after a slip.

The Suitcase will be followed by a Dead-lift for reps at 280-kilograms.

It was then a Medley which included flipping a 430-kilogram tyre and carrying an atlas stone for a distance in the fastest time.

The finale was then Yolk at 370-kilograms then Atlas Stones from 120-kilograms of weight.

Page will no be hard at work preparing to represent the country at the World’s Strongest Man competition in Finland in September.

“Qualifying to participate in Finland is a great achievement for me. I always challenge myself to do better in each competition and improve on previous results. Winning has become a lifestyle for me and now I want to win more,” he said.

Page added that being humble and always being prepared is key to his success.
