The strongest in the land

Brotherhood Strongman Competition

A Brotherhood Strongman competition took place last weekend (30 April) at the Hillfox Value Centre.

10 of the strongest men flexed their muscles to prove who the best was.

For the first event of the morning, competitors needed to lift a one ton Nissan bakkie.

This is known as the deadlift. After each round, the weight was increased at the back of the bakkie.

This was swiftly followed by tyre flips and the competitor who could flip the tyre for longest distance won.

The farmer’s walk was up next which requires the contestants to walk the furthest with a weight in each hand.

The hammer hold followed and contestants were required to hold a giant hammer weighing 25kg with outstretched arms for as long as possible.

The log press event was next where competitors were required to lfit a log at arms’ length overhead.

The final event of the day was a bakkie pull and athletes had to pull a 2.75 ton bakkie.

Alberton dominated the event as Lawrence da Silva was the overall victor with 53.5 points followed by Jean van der Have, also from Alberton with 53 points.

Home boy Werner Brits was in third position with 47 points.
