Chess pupils star in championships

Late last month (22 April) 18 of Maragon Private School’s top individual chess players competed in the Roodepoort Individual Championships.

The competition was held at Laerskool Roodekrans where the schools competed.

In the U/9 age group, Maragon’s pupils claimed all podium positions.

Nikita Lunderstedt won first place while Abigail Jacobs took second place and Reece Green came in third place.

Laerskool Roodekrans also hosted the District Championships (29 April) and Maragon’s pupils once again shined the brightest.

The U/11 and U/13 chess players competed in the championship and three of their players made it into the D12 team.

Kaerie-Lee Lunderstedt secured her place in the U/11 team by finishing in second place while Juveshen Pather won the U/11 boys section to ensure his place in the team.

In the U/13 age group, Kerri-Ann Naicker came second to be part of the D12 team and has also qualified to play at the Gauteng Trails next week (13 May) at Waterkloof High School.
