Tough start to season for Poorte

It has been a busy month for the Roodepoort Rugby Club as the Pirates Grand Challenge league kicked off.

Poorte’s opening league match against rivals and Randburg team Pirates Rugby Club.

Poorte’s U/20 team was the first up on the field and had a tough time from the onset.

They could not get going against Pirates and lost 28-0. Roodepoort’s U/21 then followed and were out to redeem their juniors.

They beat Pirates’ U/21 team 33-20. Roodepoort’s senior third team headed into the field to face off against Pirates’ third team.

There was no contest as Pirates ran riot on the field and beat Roodepoort 36-0.

The second teams were up next and once again Roodepoort were out to get back at the visitors.

However that was not to be as Roodepoort lost 28-14 to Pirates.

In the final match of the day, the senior first teams of both clubs were on the field but things did not go well for the away team.

They were beaten 34-10 by Pirates. A week later Roodepoort Rugby Club were at home to Wits Rugby Club.

The U/20 were up first and for the onset it seemed that Wits were out for blood as they beat Roodepoort 63-19.

The U/21 teams were up next and things did not improve for Roodepoort as they lost 57-20 to Wits.

Roodepoort’s third team set the crowds hearts at ease as they beat Wits 26-22 in a hard fought match.

This was followed by the senior second teams. Roodepoort had it tough as it faced a battering, losing 34-7 to the visitors.

Things did not improve as Poorte’s senior first team took on Wits’ first team. Poorte fought hard but lost 36-10 to Wits.
