Four swimmers from Florida Swimming Club qualified to represent their club in the National Championship in Port Elizabeth from 18 to 22 March.
The club consists of many swimmers from the West Rand area and meets every Tuesday for practice at Maragon Private School’s swimming pool. Tracey Hemphill, coach said that swimming starts as a life skill as it is something that everyone has to learn to do.
Hemphil further explained that she also has a swimming club named Orcas Swimming. “It is a learn-to-swim programme that aims to take young children from beginner level up to this level where they compete.”
Callum Thompson (15) from Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge, Amy Ackerman (17) from Maragon Private Schools, Alfred Purchase (18) from Hoërskool Monument in Krugersdorp and Amy O’ Rourke (14) from Saint Catherine’s School in Germiston will aim to make their swimming club and coaches proud in PE.
