Rugby season kicks off this weekend

Come support Poorte this weekend.

It’s just days until the Roodepoort Rugby Club kicks off their season with a friendly game.

This will be the club’s first match at their new home, Hoërskool Roodepoort.

The club has had a fairly quiet preseason but with Pretoria Tuine Rugby Club this weekend but head coach Brian Armitage is confident this weekend will go well for the team.

“We are excited about this coming season and things are working well so far,” he said.

Armitage says his confidence is from the fact that the core team players from last season have returned coupled with young and new players.

“Player retention has been great for us unlike previous seasons. Our team now has a great balance and going forward this will prove to be an asset.

Armitage said the area his team needed to look at was depth on the bench as they struggled with injuries last year.

“This is where these young and new players will fit in and prove themselves. Last year we lacked depth so when there was an injury in the team we struggled to close that gap,” he said.
