High flying wrestlers for soup kitchen

Wrestling frenzy at Hoërskool Die Burger's hall.

The community of Newlands was baying for blood as referee Muhammed “The Law” Valiallah seemed to forget the laws of the wrestling ring.

He was often distracted at crucial times of the match, focusing on the crowd which was seething.

However the community can forgive the referee as the wrestling show hosted by Honour Wrestling Association with the help of Xtreme Wrestling Entertainment and South African Pro Wrestling is aiming to give back.

The purpose of the show was to raise funds for Fred en Martie’s Soup kitchen.

The soup kitchen has been feeding the poor of Newlands and Claremont for 37-years and currently gives lunch packages for 65 children daily, 80 children from Hoërskool Die Burger and 350 children from the community who cannot afford to be fed by their parents.

The biggest stars of South African wrestling came out to entertain the audience with high flying moves and effortless skills.

The night started out with music from Jay Austen followed by an activity where members from the audience are randomly selected to join Steve Eden in the ring.

They are then asked to demonstrate a few wrestling moves such as falling on the mat, throwing your body against the ropes and safely getting into the corner of the ring.

It was then time for some young wrestlers from Danie Van Zyl’s Wrestling Club to show off some of their techniques they learn from the club.

After the formal proceedings it was time for the main action and the wrestler with the smooth moves DMS went head to head with close friend X-Cyro.

The match was an entertaining appetizer as both wrestlers gave it their all as they knew each other’s styles very well.

But X-Cyro was came out victorious in the night’s first match.

This was swiftly followed by Gravity taking on Hecter Payne.

Even before the match, Gravity declared he was a league above Hecter Payne and he went onto proved it as Gravity won the match.

But Hecter Payne was not pleased as he manhandled referee The Law and quizzed him about a payment and the referee feigned innocence.

Then it was the match of the heavyweights as champion The Crow went toe to toe with The Jackal in a match that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.

The Crow proved too strong and was victorious against The Jackal.

It was then the turn of Steve Eden, the pride of South Africa and he walked out in an outfit that resembled the country’s flag.

He faced off against Frenchman Thierry Midoux who had the crowd seeing red after throwing a few insults their way.

However this was just the beginning as Midoux repeatedly used a sharp object behind the referees back which sent the audience into a frenzy.

It escalated further as just when Eden seemed to have won the match, Midoux complained of cheating and after he voluntarily searched Eden, found the sharp object.

This fooled the referee into changing his decision and Midoux was declared he winner via disqualification.

The main event of the night saw Dementors of Chaos (D.O.C) duo Dirty Jackson and 2Face take on X-Terminator and Boerseun.

As the main match of the evening it did not disappoint as the two big men X-Terminator and Boerseun taught a lesson as they were beaten up and down the ring.

The match ended in defeat for the D.O.C.
