Gauteng Athletics in Roodepoort’s backyard

180 athletes will represent the Gauteng province in the SA athletics

It was smooth sailing as the Gauteng Primary Schools Athletics Championships was hosted at the Roodepoort Athletics Stadium for the first time.

The event which took place on 26 and 27 February saw the stadium covered in a sea of various colours as districts brought their best athletes to participate in the competition.

Athletes from 15 districts and 1200 schools in Tshwane, Ekhuruleni, Sedibeng and Johannesburg competed for a place in the Gauteng team.

This team will then be off to represent the province at the South African Primary School Athletics championship in Port Elizabeth on 11 and 12 March.

The top two performers in each event qualified to be in the team.

The two day event had more than 300 items on display such as discus, sprint, high jump, shot put, long jump, javelin and long distance running.
