Honeydew Bowling Club gives helping hand to blind bowlers

HONEYDEW – The Blind Bowlers Association relies on donations and were happy that Honeydew Bowling Club could help.

The Honeydew Bowling club donated R3 406.60 to The National Association for Blind Bowlers on 21 February.

The annual Lewis-Williams tournament took place on three Fridays from 5 February to 19 February and the portion of raffles raised was donated. Elizabeth de Lange is a blind bowler who has been bowling for 43 years after she lost her sight in her early twenties, accepted the cheque on behalf of The National Association for Blind Bowlers alongside the president of the Golden West Nomads Brian Bowman, vice president Paul Fritz and De Lange’s guide dog Razzle.

“It is great what the Honeydew Bowling Club is doing for The National Association for Blind Bowlers. It is donations like this that make me keep on bowling, I can’t imagine what I would do if I did not bowl,” said De Lange.

“The Blind Bowlers Association relies only on donations and it is initiatives like this that keep it going,” said Honeydew Bowling Club secretary Mary-Ann Dummer.

The Lewis-Williams tournament is sponsored by Joss Lewis-Williams who said that Allen had a soft spot for The National Association for Blind Bowlers, “He had a jar for donations at the bar in Honeydew Bowling Club which members would put money into and was sent to The National Association for Blind Bowlers,” said Lewis-Williams, brother of Allen Lewis-Williams. That is the inspiration behind the club supporting blind bowlers.
