New start for Danie’s Judo Club

Judo club does well at national competition.

Father and daughter duo Jacques and Tazmin Rossouw brought glory to the newly renamed Doryoku Judo Academy which was known as Danie KJK Judo Club.

They participated in the National Championships and trials in Durban earlier this month to compete in the Commonwealth Championships.

Jacques participated in the Masters 45-59 age group in the under 73 kilogram weight division.

He won his matches and received his national colours and will participate in the Commonwealth Champs.

“I am very proud and it is an honour to represent my country at such a prestigious competition. I have to thank our coach Danie who has taught us all we know about judo. He was the one who inspired and motivated me to improve myself. Without him I would not have such an accomplishment,” said Jacques.

His 14-year-old daughter Tazmin was also awarded her national colours after she won her matches in the U/18 age group for the under 63-kilogram weight division.

“I started learning judo 10 years ago for self defence but when I saw the other pupils competing in competitions it inspired me to do more. Now my goal is to work hard so I can be good enough to travel around the world while training in judo,” said Tazmin.

The club had entered nine judokas to the competition with only four coming home with satisfactory results.

They not only changed their name which means effort, but the club also moved into the Johannesburg district.

“We have young pupils who are now entering a new age group and it was their first time participating at that level. I am proud of everyone who participated,” said coach Danie Bruwer.

The club’s Dawid van Heerden received a bronze medal and qualified for the championships in the U/21 age group for the 81-kilogram weight division.

Quinton Kapp performed well in the U/21 age group for the under 90 kilograms while Hunter Erasmus finished fourth in the 13-14 age group in the under 55 kilograms weight divisions.

These judokas will receive their Judo South Africa colours and participate in the championships.
