Allen Lewis-Williams Memorial Tournament finals a huge success

HONEYDEW - Fun had by all at the recent bowls tournamnet.

The fourth annual Allen Lewis-Williams Memorial Tournament 2016 had its finals on 19 February at the Honeydew Bowling Club.

The tournament was on its third and final week where Brian Oxley and Marianne Spamer from the Ruimsig Bowling Club bowled their way to the number one spot. Mike Sampson and Bedette van Wyk from Ruimsig Bowling Club came in second place and Eileen Liversey and Herbie Fox represented Honeydew Bowling Club in the third place.

The tournament, which is in memory of a late Honeydew Bowling Club member, Allen Lewis-Hamilton, had 56 bowlers participating throughout the three weeks. Lewis-Williams’ family came in numbers to support the bowlers in honour of their father, uncle and brother Allen.

“My dad would be very proud of this initiative,” said Allen’s son Kyle Lewis-Williams. When asked if he would start bowling in honour of his father, he joked and said that he is still young enough to play other sports.

The evening ended with a raffle where prizes sponsored by Efore Electrical and Fancy Pack worth more than R3 000 where given away to 30 people, and a significant portion of the profits of the tournament was donated to the Blind Bowlers Association.
