The Allen Lewis-Williams Memorial Tournament kicks off

HONEYDEW – Fifty six bowlers compete in the fourth annual Allen Lewis-Williams Memorial Tournament.

The fourth annual Allen Lewis-Williams Memorial Tournament started at the Honeydew Bowls Club on 5 February.

The tournament, which is a total sell-out this year, consists of bowlers from all over the district and will go on for three weeks, including 12 and 19 February. Twenty eight teams of mixed pairs totalling 56 bowlers play against each other on three Friday afternoons in February for cash prizes of R8 000 in total.

There are also numerous raffles for prizes worth more than R3 000. A significant portion of the profits of the tournament will be donated to the Blind Bowlers Association which will be R3 000 more than what was raised for the Blind Bowlers by the club in 2015.

The tournament consists of three sets of six ends and the scores are accumulated to determine the winners which will be announced at the prize-giving on the last day. Apart from the monetary prizes, there are 15 more prizes and hence, almost half the participants will win a prize.

“Spectators are welcome and interested parties who want to learn more about bowls,” said the Honeydew Bowls Club president Dave Chantry. Joss Lewis-Williams from Efore Electrical, who is also a member of the Honeydew Bowls Club, sponsors the tournament in memory of his late brother.
