Hansie not one to be boxed in

Boxer returns to his love.

Local boxer Hansie Carr is looking to have an even bigger 2016 after a successful return to the sport he loves.

Earlier last month, Hansie won his fifth bout since returning to boxing.

He was up against Ntobeko Makeleni at Emperors Palace. He won the match in the second round with a knockout.

Hansie started boxing at 6-years-old. He went on to compete in 200 amateur bouts until he turned professional at 19-years-old.

During that time, he was crowned the junior Gauteng champion five times, senior Gauteng champion twice and South African amateur champion.

Before he retired, Hansie had a record of seven fights, winning all of them with knockouts.

“Boxing is a fantastic sport but I had to stop and find a stable job. However, in April I began to feel like I could make a return. “I just missed it and I wanted to return. The discipline and hard work are what makes the sport so great,” he said.

With more bouts scheduled this year, Hansie hopes to keep on improving until he reaches his goals.

“My goal this year is to become a world champion and make my family proud. I train twice a day,” he said.

Hansie does not regret his decision to return to the sport although it took hard work.

“It took dedication getting back into shape but it felt good when I saw all my hard work paying off. It was very hard getting back into the sport but with the help of my sponsors Canon I’ve made it,” he said.
