Golfing sensation on the greens

Golfer Cole Stevens

Resident Cole Stevens finished 5th in the recently held Bobby Locke Invitational golf tournament.

The event which was held at Parkview Golf Club had more than 100 of South Africa’s leading amateur players in the field for the 36-hole championship.

The event commemorates the late Arthur D’Arcy (Bobby) Locke, whose four British Open Championships between 1949 and 1957, and numerous other wins in Europe and the United States, made him the second most accomplished golfer South Africa has produced.

In 1987, Bobby Locke died at the age of 69 in Johannesburg.

Stevens, who is a 2-handicap, sealed his fifth spot with a 73+73 for a 146 total.

In the invitational, Stevens was just a hair away from fourth positions Basil Wright.

The competitions victory went to Tyran van Lieshout with Tyan Dreyer and Douglas McCabe in second and third place respectively.
