A 100 mile with Golden Reef

The 34th Golden Reef 100 Miler.

The sports field of Hoërskool Florida was the battle ground where the Golden Reef Running Club hosted it’s 34th edition of the 100 miler.

The grueling race, which took more than 20 hours, had runners from all over the province participating.

The race was first launched in 1982 and started from Ventersdorp to Roodepoort.

The grueling race was won by Alberton Running Club’s Johan van Tonder who crossed the finish line in a time of 20:42:01

In second place was Irene Road Running Club’s Fanie Naudè. He finished in a time of 25:42:40

Tobie Reyneke from Magnolia Road Runners came home in third place with a time of 25:48:47

The 100 miler was not the only event taking place on the day as there was the Golden Reef 100 miler Relay Race consisting of four runners in a team, the 16 kilometre race and the Mike Wilmot 12 Hour race.

In the relay race, teams from the Roodepoort Athletics Club managed to grab two podium positions.

Roodepoort Athletics Club’s first team finished in first place with a time of 12:56:05 followed by Panarama Running Club’s team with a time of 15:23:24

In third position was Roodepoort Athletics Club’s second team who finished with a time of 15:53:18

In the 16 kilometre race, Sheraaz Snyman was in top position and finished the race in a time of 1:15:57

In second place was Christopher Ferguson who completed the race in a time of 1:16:11 followed by Bennett Maleyana in a time of 1:19:41

In the Mike Wilmot 12 Hour race, Lizette Botha ran 88 kilometres in a time of 11:56:08 to claim the victory.

In second place with 82 kilometres was Andrè Atkins who completed the race in a time of 11:45:42

In third position Jan van den Berg came home in a time of 10:16:19 after completing 80 kilometres.
