Counting down to Golden Reef 100 Miler

Other the Washie 100 miler road race in the Eastern Cape, the Golden Reef 100 miler is the oldest 100 miler event in the country.

With the 34th 100 miler endurance race just a week away, Golden Reef Running Club members have been getting themselves into tip top shape.

The members who will participate in the event held a time trial to gauge where they are in regards to fitness.

Besides the individual race, there will be a relay event for teams consisting of four runners each, a 12 hour race and a 16 kilometre race on the Friday evening (23 October)

The first race was run in 1982 from Ventersdorp to Roodepoort and won by Manie Saayman in a time of 13 hours and 20 minutes.

Individual runners have 26 hours to finish the race while relay teams have 24 hours.
