Roodepoort Anglers win big at prize-giving

The Roodepoort Angling club held their month prize-giving this past weekend.

About 20 anglers attended the Roodepoort Angling Club’s monthly competition this past weekend, 2-4 October.

According to Competition Committee member Wynand Fourie, The competition started off with a bang on Friday night.

“The anglers managed to reel in 18 fish and the following night another 15 were caught and the main species caught was the common carp,” he said.

After the fish is caught, it is put into a carp cradle and often medicated by members of the club if they find it is injured. The fish is then safely released back into the lake.

Prizes were awarded to the person who caught the biggest carp and also to the person who caught the most carp and the heaviest bag.

The first prize of R1 200 cash was awarded to Riaan van Dyk after he caught the winning fish which weighed 11.575 kilograms.

Byron Fourie recieved R800 cash after he caught the most carp over the weekend and received the second prize for having the heaviest bag.

In the Junior section, Anrich Kleinhans won first place after he caught a stunning 10.3 kg carp and was given R200 cash.

“It has been a great success as always especially since we had anglers from as far as the East and joining the club,” Wynand said.
