Power couple to compete in Umhlanga

FEATHERBROOKE – Body builders, husband and wife, will represent Gauteng provincial team at the National Championship competition.

Competitive body builders from Featherbrooke Estate Nico Fourie and his wife Monique will represent the Gauteng team at the NABBA/WFF National Championship on 10 October.

The power couple will compete with body builders from other provinces in iZulu Theatre at the Sibaya Casino in Umhlanga.

If they win the competition they will acquire a place at the SA national team that will enter the World Fitness Federation (WFF) World Championships in South Africa in November.

Nico was selected after winning the Men’s Class1 category at the recently held National Amateur Body Building Association (NABBA)/WFF Gauteng Championship held at University of South Africa (Unisa) in Pretoria.

His wife Monique earned the title, Ms Gauteng Overall Beach Bikini after she won both her classes: Ladies Beach Bikini Tall and Ladies Beach Bikini Overall at the Nabba/WWF Gauteng Championship.

“My first show was in 1997, after I had decided two years before that I wanted to compete. This year was Monique’s first stage appearance – which makes her achievements so amazing, but she has been training seriously for the last three years,” explained Nico.

He further explained that his desire for success and to see results for the hours he invested in training and sweating motivates him to work hard.

This body builder has acquired overwhelming titles since he started in 1997. Currently he is holding five provincial titles, two national titles including an overall title at the Rossi Classic.

“Bodybuilding, fitness and living healthy gives us an enormous amount of self-satisfaction and a feeling of personal achievement – something that no one can ever take away from us,” said Nico.

Although Monique and Nico are each other’s biggest supporters, competing in fitness events is not a team sport. “The amount of individual effort and sacrifice that each of us is willing to put into this sport daily, influence how successful we are in the end,” emphasised Nico.

Being in shape, and being stronger and healthier than ordinary people gives this couple pleasure in the sport.
