Eugene delivers in Congo

Eugene Ngcobo returns home with a bronze medal from Congo.

Visions Gymnastics’ Eugene Ngcobo came back from his trip to the Africa Games in Congo with a huge smile on his face .

The 25-year-old won bronze medal in the vaults competition.

“It was a tough event. The different environment, hot climate and being away from home made me put in more effort and bring my A game,” he said.

This was the first time Ngcobo has competed in the Africa Games after he was selected by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) to participate in the continents biggest sport event.

A week after his triumph, Ngcobo jetted off to Croatia where he participated in the Artistic World Challenge Cup. He narrowly missed the vaults finals after he finished ninth.

“I was there mainly for the experience and it was incredible competing with some of the best gymnasts in the world,” he said.

Ngcobo started gymnastics in 2008 after a woman saw him dancing and recommended he join a gymnasium. It was then that he grew to love the sport and has not looked back since.

“When I walk into the gymnasium I feel untouchable, this is my world and I feel most comfortable here,” he said.

He wants to inspire youngsters who have learning difficulties due to dyslexia such as himself, and wants to prove that anything is possible with hard work.

“I was never good in school but I found something I was talented in, talent lies in everyone and you have to find it and grab it. I want to be proof of that,” said Ngcobo.
