Maragon pupil to represent SA in ISKF World Cup

RUIMSIG – Megan Jacobs started with karate when she was only seven years old.

Maragon Private Schools Grade 10 pupil Megan Jacobs has been selected to represent South Africa in the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) World Cup in 2016.

The competition will take place for two consecutive days from 20 – 21 August 2016 in Cape Town.

Jacobs started karate when she was only seven years old after she was inspired by children dressed in karate attire passing by her home.

“I used to see the children walking to the dojo down the street and I also wanted to join and wear the white uniform,” explained Jacobs.

She also trained at the UAE under Sensei Fayad Hameed in oriental karate for two years.

When she relocated to Roodepoort, she started training with Sensei Johan Roets from SA JKA karate for two years.

“I trained at the first dojo that I joined nearly nine years ago in Centurion. We trained twice a week for an hour and I also attended some Saturday training sessions,” Jacobs explained.

On 7 March this year Jacobs triumphed in both Kata and Kumite U15 brown/black belt division at the Gauteng North Provincial Tournament.

She was the runner-up on 5 September at the national competition in Durban.

“I’ve been training for this opportunity all this time and I’m overwhelmed and grateful for this opportunity. My whole family supports me and my twin sister, Abigail, treats all my bruises after a competition,” she concluded.
