KJK Danie hosts clinic

At the clinic, the senior pupils were team captains and assisted with officiating in the matches.

The KJK Danie Judo Club held its annual clinic this weekend at the Laerskool Roodekrans hall.

This was to conduct grading for the pupils to advance to the next level and to hold an internal tournament between the pupils.

“We had juniors and seniors participating. We started off with the white belts or beginners and were graded before participating in the tournament. We divided all the beginners into four groups, each with a senior as the captain. Then groups fought among each other to gain points,” said coach Danie Bruwer.

The purpose of the tournament was to ensure the pupils are able to apply the techniques they are taught in actual competitions.

“Although the tournament was not compulsory, it is recommended because we as coaches can then see where the pupil can improve. This allows for a pupil to progress and become a balanced judoka. Grading is only technical and the tournament is application,” said Bruwer.

In the junior tournament, Samurais took first position followed by Lions and Tigers while Dragons finished in fourth place.

It was then the turn of the senior pupils to take to the floor as they too were divided into four teams to compete against each other.

The competition was much fiercer between the older pupils as they showed off their skills.

The Pandas claimed the victory with the Giants not far behind.

The Warriors had to settle for third place while the Heroes finished in fourth position.

The clinic is also preparing the senior pupils who are getting ready to participate in the South African Schools Tournament that will take place in Turffontein next month.
