Golden Reef hosts interclub time trials

Next month another club will have an opportunity to host the interclub time trial.

The Golden Reef Running Club hosted this year’s first West Rand Interclub time trials last week.

Almost 100 athletes from Florida, Panorama and Khosa Running Clubs, Krugersdorp Road Runners, Roodepoort Athletics Club and the hosts participated in the event.

Golden Reef’s chairman Cassie Carstens said he was happy with the turnout and the success of the event.

“The event has been around for years as a challenge but interest in it gradually dropped. We decided to bring it back again but as a time trial. This is an opportunity for all the athletes in the West Rand to get together and socialize. We also have former members Hennie and Koekie who relocated to New Zealand here today which is special,” he said.

This year was also the first time Panorama Running Club participated in the interclub time trial. First place was awarded to a member from each club who crossed the finishing line first.

Roodepoort Athletics Club’s Quintus Writes, Florida’s Kevin Vine, Krugersdorp’s Wessel Moolman, Panorama’s Lynton Scorgie, Khosa’s Gordon Harvey and Golden Reef’s Bennet Maleyana claimed first place for their respective clubs.
