Cycle to make a difference

The Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge’s charity outreach is called Ride for a Purpose. Last year, cyclists raised more than R14-million for charities.

The Salvation Army is looking for cyclists in November’s Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge to ride in support of its many outreach programmes.

Major Carin Holmes, PR Secretary for The Salvation Army Southern Africa Territory said with cycling such a popular sport, she is pleased the race provides an opportunity to participate in the sport and do something for people in need.

“We are therefore asking cyclists to support us in three crucial areas of our work. Care for children in need, efforts to prevent human trafficking, and rehabilitation centres for alcohol and drug addiction,” she said.

“The Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge provides an ideal opportunity for cyclists to participate in one of Joburg’s most exciting and well-supported events, as well as to show they care for the community,” she added.

She urged cyclists to be in contact with the Salvation Army, as at least 20 cyclists are needed before the closing date at the end of August to make up a charity team for the race.
