Judokas see gold at championships

KJK Danie Judo Kwai judokas have a happy return home from championships.

Dawid Van Heerden and Jaco Erasmus from KJK Danie Judo Kwai will represent South Africa at the African Cadet Judo Championships being held in Egypt starting this week.

The two judokas were chosen to be part of the 18-man team after competing in the SA Open Judo Championships in Stellenbosch earlier this month.

In the championships, Dawid returned with a gold medal in the fighting (kumite) category.

He was not the only one who won gold in the category as Dylan Martin, Ronaldo Rossouw, Tegan Malherbe and Tazmin Rossouw won gold medals while Quinton Kapp took home two silver medals and Jacques Rossouw won one silver medal.

In the Kata category, Ronaldo Rossouw and Ivan Olivier won a silver medal each. Andrew Hewett, Tegan Malherbe, Reece Allum and Quinton Kapp each won a bronze medal.

Ruhan Terblanche, Dylan Martin, Ivan Olivier, Ronaldo Rossouw and Tegan Malherbe were also part of a team that won a gold medal.

The club’s judokas will now turn their attention to the upcoming SA Schools Judo Championships that will take place at the Portuguese hall in Turffontein in October.
