Gold for Lulu at Boxing Elites

Helderkruin’s Lulu Smith won gold at the South African Elite Boxing Championships last week.

Lulu was representing Gauteng at the event which was held in Grahamstown.

Lulu who is a Witpoortjie Amateur Boxing Club member, qualified for the competition when she participated in the Gauteng Elite Championships last month, receiving a walk-over after there was no opponent in her 64-kilogram weight division.

“I’m happy to represent my province and won a gold medal. My body is currently in pain but it’s worth it,” she said.

Although the 19-year-old is busy with her studies, she will continue to work hard in the ring as she eyes a spot in the national boxing team that will participate in the 2015 All-Africa Games hosted in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
