Caylin Carlisle became an official junior lifesaver after she cracked the nod from Suncoast Pirates Surf Lifesaving Club in Durban.

The swimming competitor from Little Falls was chosen last week after participating in a series of trials to demonstrate her ability to swim and basic first aid.

One of her dreams is to save people from drowning and now she has taken her step to making it come true.

“I want to save people who cannot swim and to also make my family proud. Being a lifesaver is exciting because it is something I can do as I love swimming,” she said.

The grade nine pupil has been swimming since the age of 10.

The 15-year-old has been plying her trade at the Florida Swimming Club and is now currently hard at work preparing for the upcoming Pietermaritzburg Short Courses Swimming Championship.
