Young hopefuls shine in Prestige Academy trials

Prestige Football Development Academy are hosting spccer trials this week.

More than 40 boys from around South Africa have been undergoing soccer trials at the Prestige Football Development Academy.

They hope to be chosen to be part of the academy’s four teams.

The boys ranging from 12 to 19 years-old arrived Monday and have been involved in intensive training sessions.

The academy is looking to recruit 18 players and CEO Ibrahim Nsangou said even more players could be chosen.

“We have U/13, U/15, U/17 and U/19 teams. The head coaches of each team are looking for special players we can develop and become professional players in the future,” he said.

The annual trials are held twice a year and those who are successful will live at the academy’s dormitories with fellow players and coaches.

“I have traveled throughout the country looking for talent. We invited them to the trials.

They arrived this week and have been hard at work showing off their skills and impressing the coaches,” said Ibrahim.

On the final day of the trials, officials from SAFA Soweto will be watching the young boys training sessions.

All the academy’s teams participate in the SAFA Academy League.

The academy will also register a SAFA Promo League team for players over 19-years-old to still continue playing for the team.
