Michael’s versatility an asset for Poorte

Roodepoort Rugby Club’s U/21 has been attracting some talented players this year.

Horizon View’s Michael Pullen is one of those players.

He joined the team this year and has shown his versatility, playing at scrumhalf, flyhalf, wing and fullback positions.

“I was taught from a young age to play any position where the team needs me so I don’t have one definite position I play in. My versatility can be an asset for the team,” he said.

The 20-year-old grew up watching his father Lawrence play rugby and would try to emmulate what he did on the field.

He then applied what he was taught by his father at Hoërskool Roodepoort where he attended.

“Rugby is a way for me to keep active and fit so I play it for fun. I enjoy being out on the field with my teammates,” said Michael.

With his father as his inspiration, Michael went on to make his debut for Poorte.

The game was against Tuks Rugby Club earlier this year and although the team lost, Michael views the game as a milestone for himself.

“It is an achievement for me because I got the chance to put on the Poorte jersey,” he said.

Michael is confident in his rugby skills but has kept his feet firmly on the ground.

“I know I am good at rugby because I have the passion for it but I know I’m not the best so when I’m on the field I just want to play and enjoy myself,” he said.
