Perry to defend Emperors Palace Classic title

Cyclist James Perry will be aiming to defend his title.

Defending Emperors Palace Classic champion James Perry will be looking to retain his throne when he lines up for the road race in Kempton Park on 12 April.

The former national time-trial champion will have a tough task ahead of him as he aims to make a comeback after crashing in December and breaking his hand.

The West Rand cyclist was out of action until early January and participated in races such as the Bestmed Tour de Boland to find some form.

Riding for Team Abantu, the 35-year-old won the 102 km race for his team in the tour.

The event which will feature 7000 cyclists will start off with the Emperors Palace MTB Classic 20km and 40km on 11 April followed by the 50km and 102 km Road Race on 12 April.

It will feature teams such as Bonitas, Westvaal and EuropcarSA.

After the feature race, the pro teams will take part in some exhibition style racing during the Circuit Spectacular, a high speed 30 minute criterium at the casino resort.
