Florida Lake Canoe Club held their awards event for the 2014 to 2015 canoeing race season this past weekend.
Shaun Maphanga and Monique Steven shared a number of trophies as top male and female paddler for the past year.
“Shaun was widely acknowledged as the club and West Rand’s top paddler overall for the past season. Monique finishing the 2015 Dusi as the first K1 lady finisher of the gruelling event ever in the history of the club was fantastic,” said club spokesperson Jennie Dallas.
Among the awards they shared were top Sub Veteran age group finishers as both had won podium positions at the K1 2015 Dusi marathon. And the Legend Of Florida Lake Canoe Club award for breaking new ground by achieving two podium positions at the event, a first for the club.
“These were quite amazing achievements from Shaun and Monique. Being third and second male and female Sub Veteran finishers respectively at the Dusi is another first the club,” said Dallas.
