Cradle Cycle Festival returns

Entries open for the Cradle Cycle Festival

Avid Gauteng cyclists are invited to participate in The Cradle Cycle Festival.

The event will take place during the Easter School holidays on the 11 and 12 April.

Organised by The Leverage Corporation in partnership with Gauteng Tourism, the race will take place at Maropeng.

The two day festival is already attracting lots of interest from cyclists competing in the Cradle Mountain Trophy.

The race on Saturday will comprise a 75 kilometre ride, starting at 7am from the amphitheatre at Maropeng while Sunday’s race will consist of a 45 kilometre route.

Riders are encouraged to cycle both days.

Organiser Rob Jackson from the Leverage Corporation said in a media statement that the first day will provide some challenging single track racing, particularly for those riders training for Sani2C and Joburg2C.

“It is an ideal ride for those leisure riders who are looking for a shorter stage practice ride and this will start at 08:00 on Sunday,” he said.

The Cradle Festival is not only for riders; it is an ideal family event.

“It will be a great day out for the whole family and we’ve arranged a fun, safe, kiddies area to keep the children entertained while the parents enjoy delicious food and craft beer. There will also be local vendors selling goods as well as a large variety of food stands. We encourage people to round up their friends and families, bring a picnic blanket and come and join in the fun,” said Rob.

Entry for families is free. Rider rates and entry details are available on https://www.mountain-trophy.co.za for more information.
