Florida Aquaholics off to Durban

The Florida Aquaholics Polo Team are off to play at the Durban Masters Water Polo Tournament.

The Florida Water Polo Club will be sending a team to compete at the 27th Durban Masters Water Polo Tournament 2015 this week.

The tournament will be hosted at Kings Park Pools from Thursday to Saturday.

More than 40 of the best teams from around the country will participate in this tournament.

The Florida Club will be competing as the Florida Aquaholics and will compete in the 35+ category.

The team has participated in the tournament for the last three seasons and had their last practice session last night.

Florida Water Polo Club Chairman and player Rein Buisman said the goals for the tournament were to improve on last year’s performances.

“We had the whole season to practice and get ourselves ready for the competition. Our aim is to improve and win a few games. The tournament is always tough because most teams participating have former springbok players so their experience makes a difference,” said Buisman.

The Florida team is coached by former South African keeper Grant Belcher and they will be facing against his team the Crusaders.

The team also hosted a fundraiser last month called Speedo Fest, a music festival that had 36 bands participating.

They will donate R7,200 in food and money to the Roodepoort SPCA.

Florida Aquaholics team list:
Rein Buisman, Nick Beard, Bjorn Buisman, Adam Dodkins, Dean Nelson, Noel Sked (captain), Rowan Hoenselaar, Gareth Kemp, Paul Gush, Llewellyn Hoenselaar, Cameron Hoenselaar, Greg Groothedde, Peter Ferreira and Zane Bower.
