Florida Tennis Club open courts to public

Florida Park Tennis Club invites you for some social fun on the courts.

The Florida Park Tennis Club is opening its courts every Saturday to those who want to play some tennis.

The social club welcomes community members of all ages interested in the sport.

It currently has 120 social members who meet for a game and a drink or two at the bar after.

The club has been in existence for more than 50 years and with six beautiful courts, there is more than enough space.

They also offer their space to the Florida Running Club and the Toastmasters.

The club recently received a financial grant from the Lotto fund to resurface their courts. The project will start in March, taking no more than 10 days to complete.

Chairman Dennis Brown has been part of the club for 35 years and was club captain for 14 of them before being appointed chairman three years ago.

“The previous chairman was a big influence in my life and that was how I became involved with the club. Over the years this became my second home. I want to carry on the legacy of the club and make sure that it remains the same,” he said.

Susan Malcolm has been a member of the club for 30 years and said being part it is tremendous fun and meeting new people is always welcome.

“I joined the club after I moved into the neighbourhood and it’s been a joy to be a part of it. When I first started, the courts were always full of people of all ages playing but now times have changed. I want more people to join the club,” she said.
