Records tumble at D12 athletics championship

D12 Atheltics Championships

Records continued to tumble at this week’s Johannesburg West D12 Athletics Championships.

The competition included athletes from the Roodepoort, Dobsonville, Orlando- West, Meadowlands and BTS (Bram Fisherville,Tsepisong and Snakepark) clusters.

Hosted at the Roodepoort Athletics Stadium, 12 records were equalled or surpassed in the 96 track and field events.

Dané Roets was on fire as she broke three records. The 13-year-old Laerskool Roodekrans pupil first broke the 2010 javelin record of 29.51m by throwng her spear 32.66m.

The shot put followed as she beat a 2006 record by almost two metres, registering a 12.96m.

In the discus, she obliterated the 30.93m record set two years ago by setting a 34.18m.

In the boys U/13 high jump, it was Matthew Jacobs from Laerskool Florida once again who beat the 2007 record of 1.63m by registering a 1.67m.

In the boys U/13 long jump, Levandre Horne from Laerskool Florida set a record of 5.27m.

Roodepoort Cluster’s Shibangu Yalezo in the boys U/8 80m sprint-12.13

Dobsonville Cluster’s O Bengani in the boys U/7 80m sprint- 12.68

Panorama primary schools Ikechukwa in the boys U/7 80m sprint-12.73

BTS Aniki Baloyi in the girls U/9 60m sprint- 09.04

Dobsonville’s R Letsholo in the boys U/6 60m sprint-10.46
