Muvhango honoured by Discovery Bowls

Discovery Bowling Club presented Morgan Muvhango as the latest Protea from the club.

Morgan Muvhango was officially recognised as the newest Protea player in the district by the Discovery Bowling Club.

Muvhango made his international debut against Namibia in the Quadrangular Tournament at Windhoek in October last year. This came after he claimed honours as the Singles Champion at the South African bowls nationals beating Proteas player, Billy Radloff.

President Gauteng Bowls Ian Stayt was in attendance along with Sables Bowls President Dave Parker and Protea players Jill Pearson and Rika Lynn.

Muvhango, who was late to his own party due to loadshedding was presented with his own photograph on the infamous Protea Wall by Discovery Bowling Club president Rob McLarty.

“Morgan is one hell of a player and we are proud to have him in our club and district. We look forward to seeing more success from him and he will do us proud,” said McLarty.

Muvhango started playing bowls in 2005 when he was a groundskeeper for national coach Theuns Fraser.

“During that time Theuns would force me to play with him and I was not very interested in the sport, soccer was my love. I guess he saw talent in me because after his persistence I began to enjoy bowls and here I am,” said Muvhango.

The Protea bowler is now preparing for the Warwick Bowls SA Masters Singles Championship coming up this weekend at the Wanderers Bowling Club in Johannesburg.
