Proteas cruise to victory

The Proteas won their third ODI match clinching the series

South Africa cruised to a nine-wicket victory in their third One Day International (ODI) match against the West Indies at Buffalo Park, East London on Wednesday.

The Proteas were set a total of 122 runs after the West Indies succumbed to the bowling of Imran Tahir and Vernon Philander. This was the second lowest total for the tourists against South Africa in this format.

A 97 run partnership between Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis secured the win, taking an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the series with two matches still to play.

The tourists elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Imran Tahir took four wickets for 28 runs while Vernon Philander took three wickets for 27 runs.

Hashim Amla scored an unbeaten 61 off 63 balls an Du Plessis was not out on 51 off 71 deliveries. Rilee Roussouw, scoring seven runs, was the only wicket to fall with 27 runs on the board.

The victory leaves the Proteas third on the Reliance ODI Team rankings on 114 points, with second placed India one point ahead. Australia are top of the pile on 119 points.  The Proteas may be able to surpass India if they win their two remaining matches against the West Indies.
