AB de Villiers on fire at Wanderers

Proteas broke records at the Wanderers stadium this weekend.

Proteas captain AB de Villiers smashed the fastest ever one-day international century in 31 balls in the second ODI against the West Indies at The Wanderers on Sunday.
The platform was set up by a massive 247-run opening partnership between Hashim Amla and Rilee Roussouw.

De Villiers hit eight fours and 11 sixes to reach his century, beating the previous record of 36 balls by New Zealand batsman Corey Anderson last year.

He also broke the record of fastest ODI fifty set by Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya against Pakistan in 1996, who scored it in 17 balls.

De Villiers scored his in 16 balls.

De Villiers scored 149 runs from just 44 balls including a record-equaling 16 sixes. His innings came to an end in the last over of the innings.

The match also set the record, becoming the first occurrence of three batsmen scoring a century in an ODI innings. Openers Riley Roussow and Hashim Amla scored 128 and 153 respectively.

The South African innings of 439 for 2 fell just five runs short of the highest ODI innings of 444 set by Sri Lanka against the Netherlands.

The Proteas surpassed their previous highest runs scored in an ODI match, beating the 438-9 in a win against Australia in March 2006.

South Africa won the match by 148 runs with the West Indies reaching 291 for seven in their allotted overs.
