Roodepoort Rugby Club back for 2015

The Roodepoort Rugby Club is back preparing for anoth season of rugby.

The Roodepoort Rugby Club welcomed back its players last night and kicked off their first training session of the year.
More than 30 players reported for duty and head coach Brian Armitage and second team coach Victor Volschenk put the players through their paces.

The team is already preparing to participate in the Assupol Super Club series in three weeks time, facing off against Boksburg in their first home game. The team is also in the same pool as Randfontein, Tukkies, and the Harlequins.
“It’s the first training session of the year and the turnout is great. Most of the senior players are back and we have some new faces too. Others are still on leave and will return in a few days,” said Volschenk.
Although there have been a few departures from the senior teams, they have no changes in the backline. However, they do need some reinforcements in their forward lines.

The club also wants to encourage junior players who are interested in the sport to join the club.
“We need some locks and props to bolster our squad but our biggest problem right now is getting junior players involved. We are trying to recruit players in the under 19 and 21 age group. Those who want to join up with the team should not hesitate to come and watch a training session and get involved,” said Volschenk.
The club has had no changes in its coach staff, something that Volschenk is proud of.
“The coaches are still the same and that helps in keeping the continuity of the club and reach our future goals,” he said.
One of those goals they are planning to reach is returning to the Community Cup. The team came close last year when they lost against the Raiders rugby club by two points in the final.
There are also changes in the committee of the club. Gareth Hemmingway, a former first team captain along with his father Gary, and George Moyers have joined the committee.
