Weltevreden Wrestler crowned as tag team champ

WELTEVREDEN PARK — Local sports star breaks record as youngest tag team champion.

A young wrestler from Weltevreden Park has done his community proud and broke the record for the youngest tag team champion.

Calling himself ‘Ultimate Nathan’, the 17-year-old and his wrestling partner took part in the African Punishment Wrestling Association (APWA) Ladder Match Event on 16 December, looking to establish himself as a formidable contender.

With his partner, ‘The Flying Dutchman’, the two performed under the name “Team Rainbow Nation” against the current champs, ‘2 Face’ and ‘Dirty Jackson’.

The ‘Rainbow Nation’ started off high on momentum with frequent tags that exhausted their opponents, however, the reigning champions quickly turned it around with ‘Dirty Jackson’’s ruthless pounding.

‘Ultimate Nathan’ dodged ‘Dirty Jackson’’s finisher move in the last minute and the super kick landed on his partner’s face instead. Nathan used the confusion as an opportunity to pin down the opposition for the three count and win the match. Not only did he walk away as the champion, but he broke the record as the youngest APWA tag team champion in history.

The fighter, who promotes anti-bullying and a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle, concluded, “the APWA locker room played a big role in making me the wrestler I am. I just want to thank my fans. I also want the youth out there to never give up on their dreams, because with hard work and passion you are capable of doing anything.”
