Davidsonville Tennis Club Hard At Work

The Davidsonville Tennis club is hard at work preparing a tournament in celebration of their official opening of their tennis courts

The Davidsonville Tennis Club is hard at work preparing for their open day tournament next year.
The tournament is in celebration of the official opening of its revamped tennis courts.

The tournament will be attended by Tennis South Africa and various other sponsors.

Coach Charles Visser, who hails from the area started playing tennis at the age 14, but had a tough time practicing as the courts in the area would be vandalized.
“Because people didn’t have much interest in the sport, the court would be vandalized and that created problems,” said Visser.

In 2005, Visser established the club and coached more than 40 chidlren.
The main aim of Visser trying to open the courts again is to get children in the area to be active in a different sport and to get them off the streets where they could get hurt.

“When children focus on sports, they tend to do better at school and that’s what we want,” said Visser.

The club already has 20 members signed up and the committee is urging more to sign up.

Visser and Charles Mazenge, who have their level 1 and 2 coaching certificates, will focus on children from the ages of 10 to 16 while those older are also welcome to play for fun.

The courts will officially open next year 31 January.
