Boxing meet and greet delights fans
Boxers from the West Rand had a meet and greet in Krugersdorp.
Witpoortjie’s professional boxing stars were part of a meet and greet at the Chesanyama Restaurant in Krugersdorp this weekend.
Johnny Muller, Ryno Liebenberg and Hekkie Budler were in attendance along with Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Brian Mitchell and South Africa’s ‘Rose of Soweto’ Dingaan Thobela as guests of honour.
Fans flocked to the venue to meet the stars and were treated to some entertainment in a small boxing ring which included shadow boxing, skipping and sparring.
Fans were also treated to the boxing heroes’championship winning belts and had the opportunity to pose with the belts. The Witpoortjie ‘Vikings’ Amateur Boxing Club were also in attendance and had a prize giving ceremony for some of their young achievers.
Johnny and Hekkie, who started their boxing careers at Witpoortjie Boxing Club were presented with an honouree membership and were also declared ambassadors of boxing club by chairman Phillip du Randt
Chesanyama CEO Stelio Nathanael said that for boxing to grow, investment in amateur clubs is a necessity.
