Khune ready for new Bafana coach

Itumeleng Khune says he will bow to SAFA's wisdom and accept their choice for Bafana Bafana coach.

South African national football team captain Itumeleng Khune says he is ready to work with the new coach who is set to be announced on Saturday.

The South African Football Association will present Gordon Igesund’s successor and Khune says the players will accept the association’s decision and move forward.

“To be quite honest what SAFA decides, we as players we just have to respect that decision regardless of whether it is a local or foreign coach,” Khune told KickOff.com.

“As players we will have to go up there and work whenever we get the call-ups, be it a local or European coach in charge. As players we cannot question who they bring and who they cannot bring. We have to do the job.

“Coaches have different philosophies and have different approaches to the game regardless of whether they are local or foreign. For me it is not my place to judge between local or foreign.

“I have been quoted before as having said I don’t prefer working with European coaches which was a lie. To be honest I will work with any coach, be it local or European because I have to do the job at the end of the day. Whoever SAFA hires, I will just have to respect.”

Former Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz has been closely linked with a return to the hot seat, while Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi, Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, Frank Rijkaard and Herve Renard have also been named amongst the candidates.
