Amakhosi claim hard-fought victory

Chiefs captain Khune was impressed by Chippa United

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has conceded that Chippa United took them by surprise in their 4-2 win over the Absa Premiership returnees on Sunday afternoon.

Chippa opened the scoring with just under 10 minutes on the clock, and even managed to claw themselves level after Kingston Nkhatha and Siphiwe Tshabalala handed Chiefs a lead.

After the hard fought battle, the Chilli Boyz ended up losing 4-2, and it sparked comments by the Amakhosi skipper over how impressed he was left by the Port Elizabeth outfit.

“We must give credit to Chippa, if they can keep on playing the way they did in the first half, they’ll do well in the Premiership,” Khune said after the game.

“They took us by surprise, they were enthusiastic in the first half and it drove them, they came at us, they created two good chances, and they converted them.”

He added: “We did very well as a team, we’ve been working hard during pre-season, so with the core to win, it shows we are on the right track to win.”
