Harris says Duminy’s crucial to bowling line-up.

Harris believes that Duminy's dramatic improvement and newfound consistency will help balance the Proteas bowling attack.

Former South African spin bowler Paul Harris has given JP Duminy the thumbs up saying that he plays a crucial part in the Proteas’ bowling line-up now that his spin bowling has improved so much.

The South Africans are currently in Sri Lanka and have just kicked off the Test Series having won the ODI three-match competition.

“JP Duminy’s dramatic improvement as an offspinner the past few seasons makes him a good foil as second spinner to the rest of the South African bowlers as he ultimately forms part of a very well-balanced attack on the subcontinent,” said Paul Harris.

“Duminy’s presence also balances the South African test team in Sri Lanka, as the management team decided to select seven specialist batsmen and four specialist bowlers,” he said.

“The biggest upward curve in his performances has been in his consistency. A few seasons ago, he bowled a couple of bad balls per over, but now he is consistently lands it in the right area.

“He still has a bit to go in test cricket, but it is about giving him opportunities to bowl at this level.”

The former left-arm spinner, who played a specific role for the Proteas in Test matches during his time, believes that South Africa’s three fast bowlers and two spinners give the Proteas the perfect balance on the subcontinent.

Duminy has taken 38 wickets in 118 ODIs for South Africa, and 61 wickets in 83 tests.

Recently, he underlined his quality by getting 4 for 73 in 17 overs in the third test against Australia at Sahara Park Newlands.
